Congregation looking for volunteer teachers
BIG SANDY, Texas--The Church of God Big Sandy is looking for volunteer teachers the congregation can sponsor at Legacy Institute in Chiang Mai, Thailand. "For the past two years we have had success in sponsoring teachers in Thailand," said Dave Havir, pastor of the Church of God Big Sandy. "We are hoping to find interested young people we could consider sponsoring for this coming year." Full scholarship For October 2003 to March 2004 the congregation gave a full scholarship to Amie Hufton of Galveston, Texas. Miss Hufton's mother (Thalia Hufton) of Hawkins attends the congregation. From October 2004 to March 2005 the congregation gave a full scholarship to Jessica Wilson of Chicago, Ill. Miss Wilson's parents (Karl and Sharon Wilson) of Tyler, Texas, also attend the Big Sandy congregation. Additional grant Also last year the congregation provided a grant to Mandi Steele of Stockton, Mo., who began with the Thailand project in June of 2004. Mr. Havir explained why the congregation financially helped two teachers last year. "We were planning to sponsor only one teacher in 2004-2005," he said. "But when I interviewed the second candidate I was impressed and asked the board to at least help her with a grant." Mr. Havir explained the difference between the full scholarship for the other two young ladies and the grant for Miss Steele. "Our scholarship involves funding transportation costs, visa costs and a monthly stipend," Mr. Havir said. "The grant was a lesser amount of money to help with transportation costs." Anyone interested in being considered should contact the Church of God Big Sandy at (800) 946-5545 or www.bigsandychurch.org. Or write the church at P.O. Box 690, Big Sandy, Texas 75755, U.S.A. |
