Five COG youths garner top honors

TYLER, Texas--Three graduating high-school seniors and two eighth-grade graduates from Church of God families in Tyler and Big Sandy garnered top honors in their respective classes of 2002.

Jessica Wilson, 17-year-old daughter of Karl and Sharon Wilson of Tyler, is valedictorian of the senior class of John Tyler High School in Tyler.

Miss Wilson graduates with a 4.0 grade-point average at the top of a class of 289 seniors.
She plans to enter the University of Chicago's equivalent of a premed program (although her undergraduate major will be biology) to study for a career as a surgeon.

The Wilson family attends the Church of God Big Sandy.

The valedictorian of Big Sandy High School is Lecia Ferguson, daughter of David and Dana Ferguson of Big Sandy.

Miss Ferguson plans to attend the University of Texas at Tyler and will probably major in art. The Fergusons attend Sabbath services of the Worldwide Church of God in Big Sandy.

Big Sandy High School's salutatorian is Andrea Boettcher, daughter of Toby and Jean Shipman of Big Sandy.

Miss Boettcher plans to attend Kilgore (Texas) College and major in elementary education.
The Shipman family, including Miss Boettcher, is members of the United Church of God, which meets in nearby Gilmer.

The Big Sandy public school also has a graduation ceremony each year for the eighth-grade class. The eighth-grade valedictorian and salutatorian for 2002 both come from Church of God families.

Jessica Killingley of Big Sandy, daughter of Reg and Carol Killingley, is valedictorian. Matthew David Fisher, son of David and Lori Fisher of Pritchett, Texas, is salutatorian. Both families attend the Church of God Big Sandy.
