Ten Commandments Calendar requests surge on Internet
BIG SANDY, Texas--Jim Ussery had to take his 2006 "Ten Commandments Calendar" off the market after he received so many requests for it after advertising it at www.biblestudy.org. Mr. Ussery, a longtime Church of God member and pastor, before his retirement, of a congregation in Arkansas affiliated with the Churches of God Outreach Ministries, annually publishes a calendar that shows the yearly feast days in relation to the Gregorian, January-through-December, calendar. He usually gives away a few hundred of them. But this year, after taking advantage of webmaster Alan Ruth's offer to provide free space for new advertisers, he had to temporarily pull the offer because he was running out of calendars. Mr. Ruth said the rate of orders was manageable until Nov. 29, when "some popular, nonreligious and non-Church of God-related Internet sites decided to post a link directly to the biblestudy.org page on which the calendar order form was placed." In seven days Mr. Ussery received 1,315 requests for the calendar, with 1,130 of them coming in on one day. Two other advertisers on Mr. Ruth's site experienced increased demand at the same time and for similar reasons. Mr. Ruth is also webmaster of The Journal's site, , which over the past two years has also experienced a major increase in visitor traffic. |
